Project Update: Stepping Stones
It is an exciting time at the Stepping Stones Project.
The team has grown and they have been joined by new Stepping Stones Officer Lynda Nunn and overseas student Anders Erickson.
As ambassadors for the project, Lynda and Anders are out-and-about spreading the word on the work of the Stepping Stones Project, raising awareness in the community and meeting with organizations and groups.
Stepping Stones provides support to disabled people and people with mental and physical health needs who are interested in volunteering.
The Stepping Stones team can help people:
- find out about local volunteering opportunities
- applying for roles
- settling in to a new volunteering position
- ongoing support whilst you volunteer
The Stepping Stones buddying project provides an additional level of support by helping with:
- Confidence building
- Developing new skills
- Guidance and advice
- Preparation for pathways into employment
The team is also expanding their outreach activities to include more venues. This will include GP surgeries, medical centres and community groups. People will be able to meet with the team and talk about the support and other options and possibilities available through volunteering. They are also planning Open Days, where people can drop in and talk about volunteering and hear about the work of the programme.
If you would like to find out details about any of the forthcoming outreach events and open days please contact Frances Byron on 0208 960 3722
