New Vetting and Barring Scheme

 New Vetting and Barring Scheme

 New Vetting and Barring Scheme

The coalition government has announced that it is suspending the new Vetting and Barring Scheme (originally due for launch on 26th July) pending  a review into its scope and the ISA will limit its activity to maintaining banned lists of individuals who are barred from working with vulnerable groups.
The Government has indicated that whilst aspects of the Vetting and Barring Scheme which are already in place will remain, no further elements of it will be introduced until the scheme has been remodelled. Obligations such as  the legal requirement for employers to check the status of individuals before they commenced work in such roles by carry out an ISA check, and criminal sanctions for employers who failed in their responsibility to carry out the necessary checks or who recruited individuals who were not ISA registered, will be similarly affected by the government’s announcement.
The requirement for employers to make CRB checks for relevant jobs remains unchanged, and employers still have a duty to refer to the ISA any information about individuals who may pose a risk.
In the meantime, KCVC is registering as an umbrella body for CRB checks so we will be able to process them for you from the autumn.  If you currently use another umbrella body we would be pleased to hear whether you pay a fee for the service and if so, how much you pay. Please contact Kirsty Palmer at kirsty.palmer@voluntarywork.org.uk with details or if you have any questions regarding Safeguarding or CRB checks.
