Volunteer Centre Kensington and Chelsea has a brand new volunteer programme developed to help you back into employment. Does this sound like something you might be interested in?

It is supported by the London Development Agency and the Learning and Skills Council and aims to provide people with a range of skills to help them back into work.  This is achieved through a mix of general training, personal support and experience gained whilst volunteering. In Kensington and Chelsea we (The Volunteer Centre) are working with local colleges to deliver this programme to the community and anyone who would like to go on it.

People on the programme are provided with:

  • 10 week NVQ Leve1/2 in Event Preparation.
  • A work experience placement, to gain practical skills and an up-to-date reference.
  • Support to enhance soft skills, such as confidence, motivation and teamwork.
  • One to one advice and guidance.
  • Workshops on job searching, mock interviews techniques and other help with finding and applying for paid employment.
  • Travel expenses, lunch and childcare costs are covered for those on the programme.

This programme is currently running in 11 boroughs accross London and will be rolled out London-wide from this spring. So far, 15% of the 370 graduates from the programme have moved into jobs, 42% have taken up further training and 33% have opted for volunteering opportunities. In total, the programme is expected to benefit up to 20,000 Londoners.
