Volunteer Charter goes London wide!

Volunteer Charter goes London wide!

REMEMBER THE VOLUNTEER CHARTER?
In 2007 the Volunteer Centre and local charities got together and worked out a minimum set of standards for organisations working with volunteers to follow. Well, the charter is being further developed with the aim of rolling out a set of standards across all of London.

In 2007 we agreed on 10 priorities that Volunteer Coordinators should be mindful of when working with volunteers. These included Equal opportunities, Volunteer Roles, Induction, Support, Training, Confidentiality, Safety, Expenses, Complaints procedures and References. See the Volunteer Charter developed in 2007 here. Framed Charters are still available free of charge all you have to do is call 0208 960 3722 to request your copy.

Following the success of our Charter, other central London Volunteer Centres including Westminster, Camden, Islington, Southwark and Lambeth came together with ourselves to work on creating a Charter for central London. This central London Charter was almost identical to our own but with an additional two priorities – Involvement and Recognition of volunteers .

The most recent development sees a move towards creating a uniform approach to volunteering for the whole of London. Building on the work that we started in 2007 GLV(Greater London Volunteering)  will hold a London wide consultation with all of London’s Volunteer Centres in the hope to agree a very similar Volunteer Charter for the whole of London. The Volunteer Charter for London will be launched shortly, full details will appear in our next newsletter.
