Solidarity Sports

Sean was a documentary maker until he decided to give up his day job and set up his own charity providing an out-of-school activities to children in Earls Court.

“I’d been running sports clubs for schools for about seven or eight years and parents were always asking me why I didn’t do weekends and holidays. But I was busy. I left university and threw myself into documentary making. Slowly, I realised that I was enjoying spending time with the kids much more than making the documentaries.

Earls Court is a forgotten little pocket of economic poverty, the children really are in need but it is completely bereft of out-of-school activities. The only green space available is under lock and key. So, we asked a local primary school, St Cuthbert’s, if we could use their playing field. We’ve worked closely with the school ever since.

Solidarity Sports is about enhancing self-confidence, self esteem and giving children a sense of pride. Rather than improving sports ability, it’s about enhancing life chances, improving communication and social skills and working on their ability to work as part of a team."

Solidarity Sports run multi activity clubs after school and on the weekends and holiday clubs offering a range of activities to disadvantaged children. They empowering children through sport, promote social cohesion, sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles. Their healthy eating initiatives are aimed at educating children about the importance of having a balanced diet and hope to instill a passion for good, wholesome healthy food as well as a passion for life.
