How we helped Family Friends
Family Friends provides long-term practical help and emotional support to vulnerable families and children in Kensington and Chelsea. Volunteer befrienders visit families in their homes for two hours a week, helping them access local resources, manage personal administration, improve parenting skills and providing a listening ear. Befrienders work with either the parent or the child in the family and aim to promote long-term positive changes.
We're constantly looking for new volunteers to cope with the increasing demand for our services. We run five training sessions a year and needed to fill the places on our September course so we contacted the Volunteer Centre for assistance with recruiting volunteers.
Contacting the Volunteer Centre was very easy; our query was dealt with efficiently and a direct mail to the volunteers on their database was suggested. Our volunteering opportunity was also included in their monthly e-newsletter which is sent out to volunteers. Family Friends has been advertising with the Volunteer Centre for several years, however, this was the first time we used a direct mail out to registered volunteers, and it proved extremely successful.
The Volunteer Centre has been very supportive to Family Friends. They have not only helped with recruitment of volunteers, but have also provided on-going support, in-house training, and volunteer recognition awards. This summer we were even recognised and awarded for the way we involve volunteers in our organisation. We would definitely recommend that other local voluntary organisations register with the Volunteer Centre and start to use their services.
